A very important step to taking care of your
skin is the proper selection of sunscreen.
When choosing a sunscreen, look for a
product that is SPF 30+, protects against
UVA and UVB, and is water resistant. The
best practice of sunscreen use is every
day. UVA rays can go through glass and
damage your skin. The average body needs
an ounce of sunscreen for exposed areas.
This may need to be adjusted depending on
the amount of area exposed to the sun.
Washing your face is very important also. You should wash your face every night with a mild
cleanser and warm water. This helps to remove dirt, makeup and excess oil that can enlarge pores
and cause acne. Hot water and harsh cleansers work against your skin and cause it to dry out. Not
drinking enough water can also cause your skin to become dry.
Get enough sleep! Not getting enough sleep can cause your body to become stressed. This can
show in your skin. Also, keeping your pillowcases and sheets clean will decrease the amount of dirt,
oil and product residue put back on your skin overnight.
These are just a few tips to keeping your skin healthy and fresh. Everybody’s skin is different and
what works for one person may not work for another. See a dermatologist if you have any concerns
about your skin’s health!
