As the weather begins to brighten in our
midwest area, Cleaver Dermatology wants to remind you about the importance of
sunscreen. While swimming and sports
outdoors are great; we want you to stay
safe. If you work outdoors, please remember
your sunscreen daily!
When should I use sunscreen?
Sunscreen should be used year round, any
time you will be outside. Remember to apply sunscreen 30 minutes before you go outside.
Who needs sunscreen?
Everybody! With the exception of children under 6 months who still need protected from the sun with
clothing, hats, and shelter.
What to look for in a sunscreen?
Sunscreen should provide UVA and UVB protection and be SPF 30 or higher.
How much should I use?
One ounce for exposed areas of the body. This amount can be adjusted depending on body size and
amount of skin being exposed to the sun. Remember to reapply according to the directions on your sunscreen bottle.
What is the difference in UVA and UVB rays?
Both cause skin cancer. UVA ages skin and can cause wrinkles and age spots. It can pass through
window glass! UVB rays are the primary cause of sunburn, but is blocked by window glass.
Sun damage can cause a variety of issues for your skin. Prevention is very important!
